This Month in Mix

The Tisch School of the Arts at New York University (www.nyu.edu/tisch/) received a $5 million donation from J Records founder/chairman/CEO Clive Davis to create a new Clive Davis Department of Recorded Music.

Each school year, 25 students will focus on “the creative producer as an artist in his/her own right and musical recording itself as a creative medium,” resulting in a B.F.A. The curriculum includes a number of recording studio practices, as well as studies on the cultural impact of recorded music and the history of different musical genres, including rock, pop, hip hop, jazz, Latin and world music. Students will also create a “performance image” for a selected artist to be distributed via radio, film, music videos and the Web.
