sE Electronics is now shipping the USB2200a ($436), a USB 2 microphone based on the company's sE2200a capsule. It records CD-quality audio (16-bit/48kHz input and 24-bit/48kHz output) via USB directly to a DAW. The mic features ultralow-latency headphone monitoring (less than 1 ms) with mix control to allow the user to set playback versus record path levels to monitor live takes; 10dB pad; bass cut; and an analog switch, which enables the user to use the mic via an XLR connector with 48-volt phantom power where required.
In addition, the USB2200a includes proprietary chips developed by sE Electronics International. One chip helps transform the 5V power supplied via the USB cable to power the capsule by first removing noise and undesirable spikes from the current. The second proprietary chip has all of the appropriate software drivers embedded for use with any DAW, automatically configuring to the host as it is connected.
sE Electronics states that it will ship the USB2200a in early January 2007.
