Floratone, Floratone
Engineer: Tucker Martine
Florawho? Well, it may not be a household name, but Floratone is yet another brilliant ensemble spearheaded by the exceptional guitarist Bill Frisell, whose creativity seemingly knows no bounds. Mix’s review of the album noted, “Never predictable, the music ebbs and flows and jerks and tumbles in so many interesting directions it makes my head spin, yet for all the unusual sonic treatments and twists and turns in the music, it never veers too far into true dissonance, and a bright melody always seems to be lurking around the next musical corner.” Frisell’s frequent producer, Lee Townshend, is part of the quartet (and a co-producer). Engineer/producer/composer Tucker Martine has worked on several previous Frisell projects, as well as discs by Wayne Horvitz, John Zorn, Mudhoney, Laura Viers and a host of other adventurous acts.
