Ozomatli, Don’t Mess With the Dragon
Engineers: Robert Carranza, Serban Ghenea, John Hanes and K.C. Porter
This was certainly one of the great party records of 2007, an eclectic mix of rock, R&B, hip hop, funk, Latin and all sorts of other spices, delivered with overwhelming energy. K.C. Porter co-produced with the band, played keyboards and helped engineer. He’s probably best known for his extensive work with Ricky Martin and latter-day Platinum Santana, but he’s also worked with many other Latin and R&B artists through the years, from Luis Miguel to Patti LaBelle to Boyz II Men to New Edition. He also produced Ozomatli’s previous album. Principal engineer on Don’t Mess With the Dragon was Robert Carranza, whose been making quite a name for himself the past few years through his work with Los Lobos, Jack Johnson, the Mars Volta and on previous Ozomatli albums. The CD was mixed by that master of many styles, Serban Ghenea, who’s worked his magic with dozens of artists crossing many genres, including Jay-Z, Bruce Hornsby, Britney Spears, R. Kelly, Jurassic 5, Pink, Avril Lavigne, Kellis and Limp Bizkit. Engineer John Hanes has worked on many of Ghenea’s projects, often as a digital editor.
