David Maslanska, Garden of Dreams
Keith O. Johnson, engineer (Jerry Junkin & Dallas Wind Symphony), Reference Recordings
In Man and His Symbols, Carl Jung shared an intriguing tale: “A very important case came to me from a man who was himself a psychiatrist. One day he brought me a handwritten booklet he had received as a Christmas present from his 10-year-old daughter. It contained a whole series of dreams she had had when she was 8. They made up the weirdest series of dreams I have ever seen…” This peculiar dreamscape serves as the motif for A Child’s Garden of Dreams by acclaimed composer David Maslanska, who has said that music forms the "balance point between the conscious and unconscious minds." The work is performed here by the Dallas Wind Symphony, America’s premier wind ensemble (led by artistic director Jerry Junkin). This HDCD recording was captured by Reference Recordings co-founder and technical director Keith O. Johnson, aka “the professor,” renowned for not only his numerous award-winning credits, but also his hand-built equipment and audio innovations (such as HDCD) that have raised the bar for high-fidelity recording.
