Producer of the Year, Classical

Jan 30, 2008 3:31 PM

David Groves

Surely one of the busiest classical producers of the ’90s and ’00s, EMI-London staff producer Groves has carved out a reputation as a steady and consistent presence behind the desk, recording literally hundreds of discs by almost every major composer: Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Dvorak, Mahler, Shubert, Sibelius, Beethoven, Chopin, Bizet, Elgar, Bartok—the list goes on. He has also specialized in opera recordings, having tackled Puccini, Rossini, Verdi and others. “There’s no dishonesty,” he once said of his approach. “All we do is make certain that the artist’s performance is presented in the best possible light. We’re like tailors, cutting a suit to make the client look good.”
