Judith Sherman

What makes 10-time Grammy Classical Producer of the Year nominee and 1993 winner Judith Sherman special can be seen by looking at the projects that led to her nomination this year. A freelance producer and engineer operating out of New York, Sherman has established herself as one of the pre-eminent producers working with contemporary classical artists. She has helmed multiple projects by Reich, Riley and Carter (who died recently) and dozens of other modern greats. The hundreds of recordings she has made through the years span myriad styles, from piano music to string quartets to horn trios, and also includes work with more traditional composers, such as Beethoven, Handel and others.

Elliott Carter: “String Quartets Nos. 1 and 5” (Pacifica Quartet)
Piano Music of Salonen, Stucky and Lutoslawski (Gloria Cheng)
Steve Reich: “Daniel Variations” (Grant Gershon, Alan Pierson, Los Angeles Master Chorale & London Sinfonietta)
Terry Riley: The Cusp of Magic (Kronos Quartet & Wu Man)
String Poetic (Jennifer Koh & Reiko Uchida)
