Producer of the Year, Classical

Robert Woods

A producer for Telarc, Woods is no stranger to this category, having won Grammys six years during the ’80s and then again in 2003. “I was very fortunate in the ’80s because I had a lot of success with various crossover [classical/pop] albums,” he told Mix in 2003, “and I was very early getting on the bandwagon for the digital recording process, and I guess I became sort of associated with that in some people’s minds.” He still straddles those worlds, making both traditional classical recordings, as exemplified by the list above, but also branching out and working with acts like the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, The Chieftains and others.

Mussorgsky: “Pictures at an Exhibition,” “Night on Bald Mountain,” “Prelude to Khovanshchina” (Paavo Järvi & Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra)
Prokofiev: “Symphony No. 5,” “Lieutenant Kijé Suite” (Paavo Järvi & Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra)
Puccini: La Bohème (Robert Spano & Atlanta Symphony Orchestra & Chorus)
Ravel: “Boléro” (Erich Kunzel & Cincinnati Pops Orchestra)
Revolutionary (Cameron Carpenter)
