Coldplay, “Viva La Vida,” Viva La Vida
Coldplay’s steadily ascending career in the 2000s has brought the British band to the pinnacle of pop stardom—their latest album, Viva La Vida, has sold nearly 7 million copies worldwide, and the infectious title track was a huge single. Catchy without being cloying, anthemic without sounding self-important, “Viva La Vida” benefitted from an excellent video that showed off leader Chris Martin’s new “look,” and from a relentless advertising campaign in the U.S. Brian Eno’s presence probably surprised some, but his touch on the album is light, but still creative.
Producers: Markus Dravs, Brian Eno, Rick Simpson. Engineer/mixers: Michael Brauer, Simpson.
