This Month in Mix

FOH engineer John Kerns (Bruce Springsteen, Shania Twain, Sammy Hagar, etc.) has been using an extensive lineup of Audio-Technica microphones for the current No Doubt tour. “I contacted A-T and got a selection of mics when No Doubt went into production rehearsals,” Kerns explains. “I immediately liked what I heard.” For Gwen Stefani's vocals, Kerns has been using the Artist Elite 4000 Series wireless system. On drums, Kerns picked an ATM23 for snare bottom and cowbell, AT3035s for overheads and AT3031s on hi-hats. AT4060 and ATM25 mics picked up Tom Dumont's guitars, and an AT4047 was used to mike Tony Kanal's bass cabinet.
