615 Music created, produced and delivered the new promotional theme song for NBC’s Today Show entitled “It’s a New Day.” The new song began to air following Katie Couric’s highly publicized departure from that program, and promotes the show’s upcoming new co-anchor, Meredith Vieira, who begins September 1. The new song was written by Greg Barnhill and Randy Wachtler of 615 Music.
“Frank Radice, SVP of the NBC Agency, came up with a great title and had some great creative direction, and Greg and I took it from there,” Wachtler says. “I wanted a contemporary song with a lyric and melody that sounded more like what’s on the radio today. Greg came up with a great hook, and our team took that ball and ran with it in the arrangement and recording. The singer of ‘It’s a New Day’ is a vocalist named Becki Corcoran, who really just nailed the sound we were looking for.”
