ATC SCM25A Compact 3-Way Monitors in The Village

As The Village Studios in West Los Angeles approaches its 50th year of making compelling soundtracks and hit records, its staff was inspired to add a pair of ATC SCM25A compact 3-way monitors. The ATC SCM25As are small enough that engineers at The Village are able to transport them from studio to studio to meet the needs of various projects, although studio manager Tina Morris reports that the monitors have been spending most of their time in Studios A and D.

“ATC monitors were a common request from our clients,” says Morris. “ATC has a ruthlessly transparent sound that doesn’t color the work at all. Other loudspeaker manufacturers tend to emphasize different components of the frequency range, whereas ATC is flat and clean. ATCs reveal the good as well as the bad so that our clients can be confident moving forward that the work they’ve done will translate in the later stages of production.”

The ATC SCM25A embodies ATC’s low-distortion performance in a 10x17x 16-inch footprint. Its precision crossovers and tri-amplified topology (150, 60 and 25 watts) are designed to work in perfect concert with the acoustics of the drivers and housing.

“People are happy to hear that we have the ATCs available,” Morris says. “Next up will be producer Ed Cherney!” Cherney is best known for his Grammy Award-winning work with Bonnie Raitt, The Rolling Stones, and Eric Clapton, among many, many others.

The Village's early sessions involved the Rolling Stones, Steely Dan, Pink Floyd and Bob Dylan, while contemporary artists such as Lady Gaga, Coldplay, Taylor Swift and John Mayer continue to track, mix and master their projects at The Village.
