Beyerdynamic has introduced the MC 840, a compact large-diaphragm condenser microphone. It features a gold-vaporized double diaphragm and five selectable polar patterns: omnidirectional, wide cardioid, cardioid, hypercardioid and figure-8. Based on beyerdynamic's MC 740 condenser microphone, the MC 840's capsule has been equipped with an improved low-noise preamplifier.

“The MC 840 allows you to expand your studio microphone selection at a minimal cost, while delivering excellent sound,” explains Alan Feckanin, beyerdynamic's Video and Production Business Area Manager. “Equipped with multiple polar patterns, a two-stage roll-off filter for both 80 and 160 Hz to compensate for the close-miking effect, as well as a two-stage pre-attenuation for both -10 and -20 dB, the MC 840 is a superior microphone for any recording situation.”
