Digidesign’s Advanced Instrument Research (AIR) group is following the launches of Xpand! and Hybrid by shipping Strike ($299), the third in its new line of RTAS instrument plug-ins for Pro Tools HD, Pro Tools LE and Pro Tools M-Powered systems running Pro Tools Version 7 or higher software.

Strike is a drum plug-in that gives users the ability to build patterns by choosing a kit and making real-time adjustments to playing intensity, complexity, timing, groove, dynamics and more. Strike also provides access to automation features in Pro Tools, and can be controlled via MIDI and Digidesign Command|8, Control|24 and ICON integrated console.

Strike’s proprietary real-time performance engine is designed to deliver human-sounding results. The plug-in’s five high-resolution drum kits contain 12 drum sounds with up to 300 samples per instrument. Users can create professional-sounding performances in a variety of musical styles using 1,500 preset patterns, which can be further customized with the onboard Style Editor. Strike can be used as a drum module when triggered directly from Pro Tools software.

Strike includes a built-in multichannel mixing console with 3-band EQ and two insert effects processors per channel. Users can adjust the overall level and panning for each drum and route individual sounds to separate mixer channels in Pro Tools software, as well as tweak microphone leakage and room ambience. Strike’s onboard effects cover reverb and dynamics, and include special tools such as a bit crusher and a filter.
