Echo Boys has launched a music licensing division and hired veteran music producer Steve McCabe to run the satellite service. With this new offering, Echo Boys becomes a full-service resource for original music, sound design and licensed music for commercials. In addition, Echo Boys offers audio recording and mixing services through its on-site sister company, Crash & Sue’s, a full-service post-production boutique.

“We wanted to create a one-stop, full-service resource for all of our clients’ music and sound needs,” says Echo Boys co-founder/sound designer Tom Lecher. “We needed the right person to spearhead the new venture, and with the signing of Steve McCabe, we were ready to move forward.”

McCabe has produced more than 150 recording artists, including the late Wilson Pickett, Bo Diddley, Stephen Stills, Leon Russell, the Allman Brothers, Eric Burdon, the late Robert Palmer, Johnny Winter, Bootsy Collins, George Jones, Etta James, B.B. King, The Judds, Vince Gill, Clint Black and the late Carl Perkins. McCabe has also been music director on tour-sponsorship campaigns for the Rolling Stones, The Who, Rod Stewart, and Jimmy Page and Robert Plant.

“The trend of licensing more and more songs for advertising has not diminished, but music and sound design companies like Echo Boys typically don’t have experience in negotiating with publishers,” notes McCabe. “By launching the music licensing division, we’ll be rounding out Echo Boys’ services and offering a new resource to clients who want to take this approach to ad music.”

McCabe will also be able to offer clients his creative expertise if the song they want to license is unavailable or beyond the reach of their budgets. “If a song isn’t obtainable, we can find an equally popular and appropriate song, sometimes by a similar artist or in the same genre,” he says. “And if the client is brainstorming to come up with song ideas, we can help out.”
