Fourteen-time Grammy-winning producer/engineer/mixer Eric Shilling recently installed a Digidesign Icon integrated console environment into Norfolk Music, his studio in Orlando, Fla. Shilling chose a 32-fader D-Control console with surround panner and Pro Tools HD 3 Accel system. He made the decision after co-mixing this year's Grammy Awards broadcast. With more than 160 albums to his credit from artists such as Enrique Iglesias, Shakira, Natalie Imbruglia, Gloria Estefan and Natalie Cole, Shilling has achieved crossover success in the pop/rock and Latin music markets.
"Icon impressed me when I first demoed it," says Shilling, a Pro Tools user for 14 years. "However, relying on it to mix the Grammy Awards broadcast locked the deal for me because it was reliable, flexible and sounded fantastic. Through that experience, I gained enough confidence in it to buy one for my own studio. I had already converted to Pro Tools HD because of how much the sound quality improved. Adding a D-Control was a natural next step for me, and now I have all the power I need to continue producing award-winning music mixes."
Shilling's most recent Icon mixing projects include five-time Grammy-winning Latin artist Olga Tanon and hard-rock band Alter Bridge, which was formed by Mark Tremonti, Brian Marshall and Scott Phillips of Creed and Myles Kennedy of the Mayfield Four.
