This Month in Mix
EzQuest is now shipping Monsoon external drives, the company’s latest high-speed, high-capacity hard drive and digital recorders (DVD+-RW and CD+-RW). Monsoon reportedly offers a more compact size, lightweight, durable anodized aluminum case, external auto-switching power supply, and better heat dissipation (eliminating the need for a cooling fan) than previous models.
Monsoon external hard drives have a FireWire 400 and high speed USB2 interface, making them hot-swappable and compatible with the widest possible range of computers. They come pre-formatted for Mac OS X and OS9 and are easily reformatted for Windows and other systems. Storage capacities include 80 GB, 160 GB, 200 GB, 250 GB and 400 GB. U.S. MSRPs: $109 for 80 GB, $139 for 160 GB, $165 for 200 GB, $185 for 250 GB and $389 for 400 GB.
The new Monsoon optical drives—to begin shipping this month—also include FireWire 400/USB2 interfaces. These DVD+/-RW drives allow you to write to DVD+R and DVD-R media as well as new dual layer DVD+R that can hold up to 8.5 GB of data or digital media. The new Monsoon is also a CDRW drive that will write to 650 MB and 700MB CD-R and CD-RW media. MSRP: $149.
