Production company Mason Media Group has chosen a Solid State Logic C100 Digital Broadcast Console as part of a facility-wide upgrade to high definition for the District of Columbia Office of Cable Television and Telecommunications.

MMG's private/public collaboration with the OCTT includes upgrading and expanding OCTT’s all-digital broadcast center. Further, MMG will market this new HD broadcast center to commercial clients around the country. Its transition to high-definition, the audio centerpiece of which is the new C132, represents a milestone in government and commercial production.

"We considered a lot of things in selecting the manufacturers we were going to partner with to meet the needs of OCTT and MMG," says MMG President and CEO Todd Mason. "Obviously, the functionality of the C100—how it will help us in facilitating the goals and objectives we had with the facility—was important. Also important was the manufacturer and what it is like to work with, not only in the initial process of acquiring and installing the equipment and getting people trained, but also its policies and track record, SSL was a very clear choice."

MMG’s productions span a broad range of programming, from complex productions requiring multiple remote feeds to teleconferences and satellite media tours, all of which must be handled seamlessly. "We think of the facility that we are building as a 'stationary truck,'" Mason explains. "It has to have the flexibility of a high-end production truck. We may do a satellite media tour in the morning, a teleconference in the early afternoon and Larry King Live or a show like that in the evening, all in the same studio and control room."

With the C100, Mason adds, "we have all our settings stored for a daily show, plus we can store and quickly recall settings for occasional shows just as they were the last time the client was there. We’ve addressed that in every aspect of designing this facility: It has to serve the needs of MMG’s high-end broadcast and corporate clients as well as the very diverse governmental client base that the Office of Cable Television and Telecommunications serves and we support through our partnership."

James D. Brown, executive director of the Office of Cable Television, adds, “We are very excited by the addition of the C100 as it will further enhance the quality of productions we are known for providing to the citizens of Washington, D.C., and help in further growth of the Washington, D.C., production community."
