Merging Technologies has announced the European launch of its new VCube HD-2K system, which will be held at AES Barcelona, May 28 to May 31, 2005.

Capable of uncompressed 1920x1080 high-definition video resolution and more than 30 different SD/HD video formats, VCube HD-2K can be used as a HD VTR replacement, a Dual-Link 4:4:4 recorder, a frame store for a graphics or animation houses, a SD/HD digitizing station to be used for network servers or as a 24fps screening system for film dubbing, screening or digital cinemas. Basic real-time editing and manipulation features include picture-in-picture, on screen text notations, cuts, fades, dissolves, and copy and paste. Embedded video water-marking (text and graphics) can be used to protect subject matter.

The system has the ability to convert any video format to any other format, SD or HD, and open multi-layer OMF Compositions from a drive or directly from an Avid Unity server. The unit offers from 1.6 - 6.4TB of media storage with the system and up to 12 audio channels.

Merging Technologies will also show their extreme audio converter, Sphynx 2, a combined 8-channel AD/DA audio interface for PCM, DSD and DXD. The unit includes audio interfaces: 4 channel D/A, AES/EBU, S/PDIF, TDIF, ADAT, and PT Mix 24, SDIF3 and MADI and handles sample rates for the PCM, DSD and DXD formats. Sphynx 2 comes with a MADI Interface for single cable connection to Pyramix.
