This Month in Mix
Lectrosonics is unveiling three additions to its SM Super-Mini transmitter line at NAB 2006 in the Las Vegas Convention Center from April 24 to 27 (booth #3225). The SMD (SM-Dual) transmitter uses two AA batteries; the SMQ (SM "Quarter Watt") transmitter also uses two AA batteries and has been designed to deliver 250 mW of power for longer range and greater resistance to interference than the standard SM 100mW transmitter. The RM (remote unit) was created for programming and operating the SM transmitter family, including the new SMD and SMQ units.
The RM communicates with the transmitter via a proprietary audio signal through the transmitter's microphone so it does not rely on line of sight. This allows the transmitter to be buried in a costume and still respond to commands updating operating frequency, audio level, sleep, control surface lockout and so on. The RM is supplied with a lanyard and quick-release mechanism.
Lectrosonics designed the VR Field receiver (pictured) to provide audio/video professionals with a portable receiver for remote recording applications. The specifications and performance of the VR Field are identical to those in the standard rackmounted Venue Receiver.
The VR Field system is powered from a single NP1-type battery and features a compact design to integrate with mobile bag systems for ENG, video and film production. A front panel cover was added to prevent spray and dust from collecting on the controls or display.
The Venue Receiver System includes a modular design hosting up to six receivers and employs the company's Digital Hybrid Wireless architecture for compander-free audio in native 400 Series mode. Additional modes are selectable, allowing compatibility with older Lectrosonics systems and transmitters from other manufacturers.
