NEP Studios in Pittsburgh has created a new production home for The Daily Show With Jon Stewart on Comedy Central’s cable channel. The new facility, which opened in July, is dubbed Studio 52 after its 52nd Street and 11th Avenue location in New York City, and features a Solid State Logic C100 Digital Broadcast Console with Version 2 software as its audio production centerpiece.
“When the space became available, executives from The Daily Show with Jon Stewart decided to move from our NEP Studio 54 facility to a newly engineered all-digital facility, plus they were looking for more space to accommodate the growth of the show,” says John T. Chow, director of engineering for NEP Studios. “Studio 52 will also provide enhanced production services, increased space for a larger audience and more room for the writers.”
The enhanced operations provided by the new Version 2 software offer broadcasting options such as greater I/O capacity and improved 5.1 features. TouchPan provides full 5.1 panning access from the central touchscreen, with color coded displays and comprehensive control of all surround parameters. The new software also comes with new channel TFT Graphics, which enhance the operator’s overview through per-channel display of processing, panning and source allocations. Version 2 also supports new I/O expansion for the Centuri core, expanding the mic input capacity within the processing chassis.
