Shure has randomly chosen its 10 collegiate finalists for this year’s Fantastic Scholastic Recording Competition. The student teams competing in the studio this year will be representing the DePaul School of Music, New England Institute of Art, College of Saint Rose, Cleveland Institute of Music, the University of Memphis, Barton College, Capital University Conservatory of Music, Northeastern University, Lebanon Valley College and Shenandoah University.
“We are really excited to see a continued interest in this contest from the schools and students,” comments Dave Mendez, Shure’s market development specialist, who coordinated the competition. “The level of competition and professionalism during last year’s contest was extremely impressive, and we hope to see more of that this year. This competition is a great way for us to show our support for the people who teach and study recording, and a great way to for these same people to experience and experiment with Shure microphones.”
Each of the 10 student teams will work on a recording project that comprises tracking and mixing a performance, exclusively using a “microphone locker” provided by Shure for the competition. Teams will be required to submit a stereo mix and raw sample tracks for review by a panel of industry professionals who were selected by Shure to judge the competition.
The winning school will take ownership of the entire Shure Microphone Locker, which includes a Beta 52A, a Beta 91, two Beta 98s, two KSM27s, two KSM32s, two KSM44s, two KSM141s, four SM57s and a SM7B. In addition, a donation of $3,000 toward a scholarship fund will be awarded to the winning school, and each member of the winning team will receive a KSM27, valued at $575.
