KCPQ-TV, Seattle’s Q13 Fox affiliate owned by the Tribune Company, has installed a Solid State Logic C100 digital broadcast console as part of a significant facility upgrade. The C100 satisfies a comprehensive range of criteria for KCPQ, which creates and broadcasts five hours of news each day.

“I’m a real believer in allowing the operators and maintenance staff to see this equipment firsthand before we make a major purchase,” Michael Goodman (pictured), director of engineering for Tribune Television Northwest, notes. “I might buy it, but they’re the ones who will use it and I really need to hear from them. We fell in love with it the first time we saw it. Maintenance people, operators—everybody felt the C132 beat every other console hands down. It’s a performer, a very, very solid machine.”

KCPQ broadcasts Q13 Fox News This Morning, and creates and broadcasts an additional hour of news every night with Q13 Fox News at 10.

“We do a very, very energetic show, and it’s all over the place,” says Goodman. “The engineers need a tremendous amount of dexterity on that worksurface to make the show work.”
