Threshold Mastering in Los Angeles recently hosted mixing and mastering sessions for a new Los Lobos DVD that was captured live at House of Blues Sunset Strip with a high-definition camera and in 24-bit/96kHz surround. It features a complete live performance of Los Lobos’ 1992 release, Kiko.
Mixing duties were handled by Mark Johnson and Andy Smith, and the mastering was handled by Stephen Marsh, Threshold’s director of mastering. The project was produced by Larry Shapiro, and will be available on HD-DVD and as a soundtrack CD through Disney. Marsh is also mastering Los Lobos’ new studio album, The Town and the City, which is due in stores September 12. The new album was produced by the band and mixed by their frequent collaborator, Tchad Blake, with additional mixing by Robert Carranza.
Veteran engineer Ed Cherney recorded and mixed Australia’s Wolfmother live in the Studio at the Palms in Las Vegas, and Threshold’s Marsh mastered the audio for delivery to Apple Computer. The six-song set, recorded as part of Apple’s iTunes Essentials Series, is available for download at the iTunes music store and also features live video from the performance.
