Mackie announced the debut of its new S200 Series and C Series Precision Passive loudspeakers. New S200 and C Series passive loudspeakers will be available in early Q2, 2005. Intended to complement powered mixers or amplifiers, the Mackie S200 Series loudspeakers, featuring the S215 and S225, are available in single-woofer and dual-woofer configurations.
The S215 ($549) is a two-way loudspeaker that features a single 15-inch woofer with a voice coil. The larger S225 ($849) features two of these same woofers. In both models, a 1.75-inch titanium-dome compression driver with optimized symmetric phase plug handles the high frequencies.
The driver/crossover combination allows the S215 to handle up to 1,400 watts of peak power, deliver a peak SPL of 130 dB, with a frequency response of 55 to 20k Hz. The S225 can handle up to 2,800 watts of peak power, deliver a peak SPL of 135 dB, with a frequency response of 46 to 20k Hz.
Both S215 and S225 feature high output, low- and high-frequency drivers matched with precision passive crossovers. Inputs accept either Neutrik Speakon connectors or female ¼-inch TRS. S Series cabinets are constructed using 18mm Baltic birch plywood and pressure-injected structural resin.
