Northeastern Production Systems has installed a complete sound, lighting and video system at the Marvin Sands-Constellation Brands Performing Arts Center in Canandaigua, N.Y. The sound reinforcement system features JBL VerTec line arrays and SRX712M stage monitors.

Formally known as the Finger Lakes Performing Arts Center, the original facility operated from the early 1980s until August 2005 with 2,500 covered seats and a 10,000-seat capacity in the lawn area. In September 2005, the original structure was torn down, and the new facility was completed in June 2006. The new Marvin Sands-Constellation Brands Performing Arts Center (CMAC) features the same lawn-seating capacity as its predecessor, but now contains 5,000 covered seats.

With a larger seating capacity and hard, reverberant surfaces, president Ray DiBiase of Northeastern Production Systems chose a VerTec sound system for maximum clarity and definition. “With all-metal ceilings and a concrete floor, the VerTec system offers an extremely effective distribution of sound without unwanted reverberant side effects,” DiBiase explains.

The main P.A. system comprises 12 VerTec VT4889 full-size line array elements (six per side) powered by Crown I-Tech amplifiers. Comprising the lawn P.A. are 18 VerTec VT4888 mid-sized line array elements (arranged in three clusters of six), also powered by Crown I-Tech. Additionally, JBL SRX712M loudspeakers serve as front-fills and stage monitors.

“Having been a JBL Professional user since the start of Northeastern Production Systems in 1972, the VerTec system is a perfect combination of audio quality, transportability, low weight, dependability and acceptability in the marketplace,” DiBiase says. “By installing this system at CMAC, the touring acts that perform there are always happy and familiar with the system. Our ability to add to the size of the venue’s installed system with Northeastern Production’s portable VerTec rental system has proven to be a cost-effective and time-saving process. To sum it up, the VerTec line arrays, combined with the self-processed Crown IT4000 and IT8000 amplifiers, made our job simple and gave the customer a world-class system.”
