Those attending this year's NSCA Expo at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla., will have several opportunities for hands-on product training.

Harman Pro North America, the U.S. distributor for AKG, Soundcraft and Studer, will be hosting two afternoons of informative product training sessions. Free and open to all Expo attendees, the training sessions will be conducted in room W110A, adjacent to the exhibit floor. Registration for these classes is not required. Yamaha will also host training sessions, titled The Introduction to Digital Mixing and featuring the Yamaha M7CL console, during the NSCA Expo in room W304D. Attendees will learn the basics of operating a digital mixer with hands-on experience on the M7CL. Presented by product manager Dan Craik, several consoles will be available in a mix-as-you-learn environment. Items covered in the course include fundamentals of digital mixing, benefits of going digital and a Q&A session. Last but not least, Fits & Starts Productions will bring a pair of its How-To Church Sound Workshops to the Expo on Friday, March 16 and Saturday, March 17. Offering applied, hands-on training for volunteer staff, music ministers, youth members, choir directors, musicians or anyone seeking to gain a better understanding of sound systems or considering a sound system upgrade, the workshops will focus on both basic and advanced techniques.

With a focus on the proper choice and use of microphones in a house-of-worship environment, the How-To Church Sound Microphone Techniques Workshop will examine correct mic placement for musical instruments, choirs and soloists, as well as the operation and differences between hardwired and wireless mic systems. Different microphone polar patterns will additionally be evaluated, as will phantom power and its uses. Providing an overview of how to effectively operate sound systems and record worship services, the How-To Church Sound Workshop will dive headlong into topics including microphones and inputs, mixing consoles, processors, amplifiers, loudspeakers and setup techniques.
