DVD authoring systems are more ubiquitous with improved price/performance ratios, from Sonic Solutions' $79 consumer apps to full-featured professional systems. Apple showed the fruits of its Spruce Technologies acquisition, launching DVD Studio Pro 2.0, with a slew of other features, including a hugely improved menu creation. Sonic Solutions (www.sonic.com) showed V. 3.0 of its high-end Scenarist authoring system, and continues to dominate the technology licensing market for DVD by announcing that Avid will bundle Sonic ReelDVD LE with its Avid Xpress DV V. 3.5 PowerPack digital video-editing software. New DVD products from Adobe (Adobe Encore), Sonic Foundry (Vegas+DVD), Pinnacle, Ulead (and more companies than we have space to list) made it clear that every nonlinear editing system is now obliged to serve up tools for DVD content distribution.
