On Sunday, October 7, Mark Parsons (pictured) of Parsons Audio & Center for Audio Studies will chair a new education forum panel at the 2007 fall AES convention at the Javits Center in New York City. The panel will address what it takes to be employable, which skills need more emphasis, teaching skills, how to get the most for your education dollar, mistakes students should avoid, and more.

“123rd AES convention Education Chair Jason Corey has developed one of our most comprehensive and ambitious student programs,” says AES Executive Director Roger Furness. “Student attendees will have access to unprecedented career-building insights provided by some of the most astute, connected and accessible members of the professional audio community."

The panel will focus on how audio education is preparing prospective professionals for the marketplace. Panel members include Jim Anderson, chairman of the NYU Clive Davis Department of Recorded Music, 123rd AES convention chair, and a recording engineer whose work has accrued multiple Grammy Awards; Alex Case, convention tutorials and workshop chair, as well as a professor at the University of Massachusetts Lowell; and Dave Moulton of Sausalito Audio Works, a Grammy nominated engineer, producer and committed educator.

Other participants will include Eddy B. Brixen, a leading audio consultant with Denmark’s EEB; Digidesign’s Dave Lebolt; and Zoe Thrall, director of the Studio at the Palms in Las Vegas, and former general manager of New York City's Hit Factory.

“Our traditional student /career events have always been extremely successful, thanks to the real world mentoring advice available to attendees,” says Corey. “Accessibility to many of the industry’s most successful engineers and producers, coupled with an opportunity to interact with manufacturers and get a hands-on opportunity to familiarize themselves with cutting-edge technology, makes AES conventions irresistible to students who are serious about careers in pro audio.”

Other events geared toward students include a panel titled "Inside the Job Interview," workshops on internships and entry-level positions, a career workshop, a recording competition involving stereo and surround formats and a second annual technical paper competition.

The 123rd AES convention will be held October 5-8, 2007. For registration and housing information, and a detailed preliminary calendar of events, visit www.aes.org.
