Paul Verna will moderate AES 123rd Convention Platinum Producers and Engineers Panels

Pro audio author and journalist Paul Verna (pictured) will moderate Platinum Producers and Engineers Panels at the 123rd AES Convention in New York City. The sessions will provide insights into the process of collaborating with superstar artists in some of the world’s most storied studios. Each panel will be highlighted by audio montages and a freestyle Q&A.

On Saturday, October 6, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., the panel will feature Ed Cherney (Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan); Hal Willner (Lou Reed, Deborah Harry, Lucinda Williams); Al Kooper (Lynyrd Skynyrd, Joe Ely, B.B. King, The Tubes); Jack Joseph Puig (Green Day, John Mayer, Black Crows, Verve Pipe) and a coterie of equally accomplished producers. They will explore the creative, technical, business and career-management challenges producers face in today’s rapidly evolving recording industry.

On Sunday, October 7, from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., the panel will share insights on the recording process and tips on navigating today’s increasingly complex recording industry. Panelists include Bob Clearmountain (Springsteen, Roxy Music, The Pretenders, Bryan Adams); Kevin Killen (U2, Peter Gabriel, Bryan Ferry, Kate Bush, Elvis Costello); Tony Maserati (Black Eyed Peas, Destiny’s Child, Jessica Simpson, Usher); Ralph Sutton (Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Mary J. Blige, Macy Gray, John Legend); Nick Sansano (Public Enemy, Bel Biv DeVoe, Bette Midler, Ice Cube), John Horesco (P. Diddy, Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, Chingy); Steve Rosenthal (Lou Reed, Rolling Stones, The Persuasions) and Young Guru (Jay-Z, Cam’Ron, T.I., Young Jeezy).

Verna has written for Mix and Billboard magazines, and is senior entertainment analyst at eMarketer and co-author of The Encyclopedia of Record Producers.

The 123rd AES Convention will be held in New York City’s Jacob Javits Convention Center October 5-8, 2007. For registration and housing information, and a detailed preliminary calendar of events, go to
