129th AES Convention Technical Tour Co-Chairs Jessica Livingston and Jeff McKnight have planned Technical Tours of audio facilities and venues in the San Francisco Bay Area as part of the 129th AES Convention, which will take place in San Francisco's Moscone Center November 5-7, 2010. The AES states that times and dates have yet to be finalized, but is offering an advance look at some options.
“SF’s extensive Tech Tour opportunities, coupled with the coincidentally close proximity of six sites, inspired Livingston and McKnight to provide visitors with a pair of two for one opportunities. To the best of our knowledge this is the first time we have been able to offer package tours,” says Convention Co-Chair Valerie Tyler.

Situated across the street from each other in the heart of the Berkeley Arts District, Freight & Salvage and Berkeley Repertory Theatre are offered as a single tour. Freight & Salvage is a 42-year-old coffee house that recently opened California’s largest venue for traditional music. Read Mix magazine's facility profile of Freight & Salvage from Mix's May 2010 issue, and for more on Berkeley Rep, read "Staging Green Day's 'American Idiot'" from Mix's January 2010 issue.
Tiny Telephone and non-profit organization Women's Audio Mission, both located in San Francisco's Mission District, comprise a tour package.
Another tour package comprises audio post facilities Crescendo and Polarity Post Production, both of which are located in San Francisco's historic Barbary Coast waterfront district.
Other Technical Tours will visit Dolby in San Francisco and Brisbane, Outpost Studios
in San Francisco, Davies Symphony Hall, Stanford University's Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics in Palo Alto, San Francisco landmark Grace Cathedral, Studio D in Marin County and Studio 880's new Mix Manor in Alameda.
Tickets for Technical Tours are only available on-site at the Moscone Center. Tickets are sold at the Reception Desk in the main lobby well in advance of departure.
