Audio-Technica’s AT897 Line + Gradient Condenser Microphone is designed for film/TV/video production, professional recording and broadcast applications, and is a short shotgun microphone intended to capture high-quality field audio in demanding situations. Its light weight and compact 11-inch length allow the AT897 to conveniently mount on a DV camcorder without adding noticeable heft, while remaining out of the frame on wide shots.

The mic’s condenser element features excellent on-axis response, while its Line + Gradient polar pattern provides excellent sound rejection from the sides and rear of the mic. Opening on an internal battery (AA) or phantom power (9 to 48 volts, 2 mA), the AT897 includes an integral low-frequency roll-off switch for reduced pickup of unwanted sounds, a foam windscreen and stand adapter.

The microphone will be available in November 2003 with an MSRP of $369.
