Broadjam (New Glarus, Wisc.), a provider of music-publishing software tools and services, unveiled its Song-Management System, a Web-based music database and search engine at

The system hopes to provide music publishers, record labels, performing rights organizations and other music industry organizations with an intelligent online database for their music and song catalogs. Broadjam has already contracted one music publisher that provides the catalogs of artists such as Tommy Dorsey, Madonna and Led Zeppelin. Broadjam also licensed its Song-Management System to The Orchard, a independent music distributor to online and offline retailers, for its new spin-off, OWIE.

The system enables users to search multi-criteria topics, from song genre, mood, similar artist, era, tempo, key and lanaguage, and retrieve qualified matches as digital files, which can be streamed directly to the user from the user screen. Also provided is information on the rights-holders.

Commenting on the system, Roy Elkins, CEO and founder of Broadjam, said, "Music publishing is the last vital link in the music industry chain to move into the Internet era. Broadjam is where 'Tin Pin Alley meets Silicon Valley'; we want to be a key enabler of publishers' ultimate success in provisioning their music catalogs online. The Broadjam Song Management System was built by musicians for music industry professionals. We believe there is a wide market for our smart tools and interfaces in the music industry."
