Edge Audio of Chicago has chosen Nexo's GEO technology for its flagship rig, bringing in 16 GEO S805 and two S830 compact, high-output full-range loudspeakers that can be combined in horizontal or curved vertical arrays, supplemented by six CD12 sub-bass units. The system is amplified by four Camco Vortex 6 and controlled by two Nexo NX241 digital-management systems.

"We did a lot of homework," commented Rich Mullen, president of Edge Audio, who, along with partner Al Zara, spent many months evaluating speaker products. "We made a pretty intensive survey of what was available on the line array market, how all the cabinets were engineered and the performance claims of the competing manufacturers. I narrowed the options down to three—Meyer, L Acoustics and Nexo—and in the end, it came down to what sounded the best to us. In this category of mid-sized line array systems, the GEO S sounded the best, and the bonus was that it was so much smaller than the alternatives."

Edge Audio, a regional production services company operating throughout the Midwest region, is involved in corporate entertainment and multimedia presentation, as well as large college concerts. "The kicker was the GEO S size and output," said Mullen. "In our world, it is very important to be able to fit speakers in between video screens, yet keep them out of sightlines. With GEO technology, I can get 120° horizontal coverage from a small box, with the ability to go full-range at the top boxes. I can do so many different things with GEO, and they all sound great. As for their compact size, with GEO S, I can fit a very high-quality 24KW P.A. in the first four feet of my truck!"

After taking delivery of the GEO S system, Edge Audio's first show was with Vertical Horizon, playing a 1,000-seat tiered theater. "We flew hangs of eight S805 plus one S830, trimmed at 25 feet, with ground-based subs. I could take it up to 110 dBA throughout the entire venue. We walked the entire room and there was absolutely no phase, just terrific stereo imaging—very even, very flat."
