Ernest Howard Holt Jr. passed away on February 13, 2004, at the age
of 77. A member of ICIA, Holt once held the position of chairman of the
Board for the National Audio Visual Institute of Indiana University. He
was owner of Audio Visual Film Service in Birmingham in 1958; the name
was changed to Holt Audio Visual & Video in 1987. Still in
business, the company is now owned and operated by his two sons,
Michael and Patrick. He owned the first franchise for Lava Lights in
Alabama, co-founded Action Film Labs and established the Cory Coffee
Company in five Southeastern states.
Originally from Gordo, Ala., Holt was a Birmingham resident for 53
years. A veteran of World War II, he served as a corporal in the U.S.
Army in 1945 and received an honorable discharge in 1947. Holt was a
1950 graduate of Livingston University, which is now University of West
