Associated Production Music, a provider of production music to the entertainment industry, and Young Musicians Foundation, which supports the development of musicians through financial assistance, performance opportunities and music education programs, announced a new educational fellowship to introduce young musicians to professional opportunities in the business of film and television music.

“APM wants aspiring, young musicians to know about the many professional opportunities that exist throughout the film and television music business,” said APM president Adam Taylor. “By showing young musicians how the movie music business functions, we hope to contribute to the development of the next generation of film and television music composers, supervisors and executives.”

YMF Chair Beverly Bergmann made the announcement at the foundation’s 49th annual gala benefit at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Past honoree Carl Reiner hosted and event vice-chair Merv Griffin appeared as guest star entertainer at the event, which honored Grammy- and Emmy-winning composer/conductor Mort Lindsey and the Beverly Hills Courier editor and publisher March Schwartz and his wife.

YMF will select the fellow, who will participate in 16 different half-day sessions that are designed to provide direct insight into different aspects of the film and television music business, including primers on music copyrights, licensing and clearances; working with APM’s staff on music searches for their clients, studio or network client calls; and attending live scoring sessions and final audio mixes. The fellow will also work with YMF’s staff to help catalog and archive the nonprofit’s orchestral music library.

YMF will select the fellow in January. Qualifying musicians are encouraged to contact YMF to apply. The inaugural fellowship will commence in February 2004, and the selected fellow will receive a compensatory stipend.
