Nashville-based Georgetown Masters has purchased and installed a 24-bit SADiE 24/96 digital audio workstation system.

The SADiE system came to Georgetown Masters as a result of the experiences of Andrew Mendelson, the facility’s VP and chief engineer. Mendelson spent three years at Telarc Records, where he worked on SADiE workstations and over 20 SACD releases before joining Georgetown Masters. "The SADiE is simply the best-sounding and most flexible system on the market today," remarked Mendelson. "I knew it would bring those same qualities to Georgetown Masters, and it has."

The SADiE 24/96 has been used on projects for Emmy Lou Harris, Michael W. Smith, Los Tigres Del Norte and emerging country musician Joey Martin, produced by Paul Worley. In addition, Georgetown Masters is using the SADiE 24/96 on new surround and stereo versions of a classic performance by Frank Sinatra and the Count Basie Orchestra—with musical director Quincy Jones—recorded at the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas in 1968. The SADiE system will also provide the platform for stereo and multichannel DSD mastering to support the growing number of SACD recordings Georgetown Masters is doing, when a planned DSD upgrade is completed in 2003. The SADiE will also help the facility launch new services that will benefit its clients in other ways, such as the pending transfer of DDP data images between Georgetown Masters and the Bertelsmann-owned Sonopress disc replication facility in Weaverville, N.C.

"We’re installing DSL now, and with the SADiE, we’ll be able to send DDP images to the plant virtually, without using physical media," Mendelson explained. "That will speed up the process, in response to the demand for faster turn-around times by labels, but without any compromise in sonic quality. We expect that the SADiE workstation will eventually become the exclusive platform we use here at Georgetown Masters."
