Island Systems & Design—an Orlando, Fla.-based multimedia A/V solutions firm—was named to Hispanic Business 500 list of the nation’s largest Hispanic-owned companies for the fifth consecutive year.

“As a member of the fastest-growing population and the fastest-growing business owner demographic in the United States, making this prestigious list becomes more difficult each year,” said Island Systems & Design CEO Carlos Gonzalez. “This shows that even a small, family-owned and operated business can succeed and continue to grow when committed to excellence.”

The award is presented to businesses with annual revenues ranging from $5 million to $1.48 billion. Total revenues for all Hispanic Business 500 honorees reached $23.1 billion for 2002. The award is sponsored by Hispanic Business magazine. Companies included in the Hispanic Business 500 must show at least 51% ownership by U.S. Hispanic citizens and must be headquartered in the U.S. Companies must submit revenue figures based on their report to the IRS on line 1c of the corporate/partnership tax return.

"It is nothing short of remarkable that the companies on this year's Hispanic Business 500 collectively posted 2002 revenues in excess of $23 billion," commented Hispanic Business Inc. founder and publisher Jesús Chavarría. "The fact that so many Hispanic-owned firms managed to prosper despite what has been by all accounts a challenging economic environment speaks to the vitality and dynamism of the U.S. Hispanic economy."
