MIDI programmer/mixer/Pro Tools engineer Jan Folkson (Tony Bennett, Natalie Cole, Bob Dylan, Elton John, Steely Dan and many others) has opened Studio E, a Digidesign Pro Tools|HD-based editing/mixing suite, in Sound on Sound (Manhattan).

With a control room and iso booth, Studio E is set up for stereo and surround mixing with monitors by Quested, Genelec and Yamaha. At its core is a Pro Tools|HD4 48-in/24-out with numerous plug-ins and a Control 24 console co-designed by Digidesign and Focusrite that is housed in an Argosy enclosure. Tracking can be done in the iso booth using a collection of modern and vintage mics from Telefunken, Neumann, AKG, Schoeps, Beyer, Gefell, Royer, Audio-Technica, Shure and Sony.

“Studio E is the room that I’ve been looking for: a studio that sounds good and feels warm,” Folkson said. “It meets all of my needs for mixing, overdubbing and editing. And Sound on Sound offers a strong infrastructure and wonderful support team from the general assistants on up to top management.”

The room was designed by Lawrence P. Swist Designs.
