A Neumann U87 microphone from 1976, valued at over $2,000 was signed by Mariah Carey and will be auctioned through eBay as part of the CBS Early Show's annual nationwide drive for instruments, with all proceeds going to the VH1 Save the Music Foundation to help restore school music programs.
Carey appeared on the CBS show to help promote the instrument drive, which is a joint effort between VH1 and CBS, both units of Viacom, and also including local CBS affiliates and NAMM Music Retailers. Student musicians from New York City Public School 125 and Bob Morrison from VH1's Save the Music were also in attendance.
