Chalice Studios, a new L.A.-based recording studio scheduled to open in July, has purchased a Neve 88R analog console for music recording.

The 88R, Neve's first large-format analog music console in close to 20 years, will be installed in Studio B and is scheduled to be ready for use by August of this year.

Jonathan Little, general manager at Chalice Studios, explained that the 88R will serve as a centerpiece to what is promised to be a unique, "fantasy-like" recording facility geared mainly toward rock 'n' roll artists. Little pointed to the mixture of old and new AMS Neve features and capabilities as reasons for selecting the 88R over other consoles.

"The 88R has the philosophy and sonic integrity of the older Neve boards, combined with the flexibility and advantages of its more recent console offerings," said Little. "This console is ideal for what we want to accomplish at Chalice Studios."
