The Board of Trustees of the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences Inc. (the Recording Academy) has chosen Neil Portnow as president of the Recording Academy. Former president of the Recording Academy Michael Greene resigned from the post this past April. Visit the Mix Daily News Archive for April 2002 for more on that story.

Portnow, whose specific start date will be announced shortly, has served the Academy as a volunteer leader in a variety of roles for 20 years. He recently served as the treasurer and secretary of the Academy's National Board of Trustees during the past two years.

Portnow currently serves as senior VP of west coast operations for the Zomba Group of Companies. Before that, he was VP of A&R at EMI America Records, VP/general manager west coast Arista Records and president of Twentieth Century Fox Records.

"Neil comes to us with superb credentials and a unique skill set that perfectly matches what we were looking for in a new president," said Garth Fundis, chairman of the Board. "His background in music and entertainment and his extensive experience with our organization as a volunteer leader will play a key role in enhancing the Academy's profile as we continue to increase the scope of our programs and initiatives nationally."
