This Month in Mix
Recent projects at Avatar (New York City) included guitarist George Benson putting the finishing touches on his new record in Studio A. Alec Head engineered with assistance from Ross Petersen. Also in “A” was bassist Charlie Haden to record his new Verve release with guest Gonzalo Rubalcaba. Jay Newland engineered with help from Petersen.
In Studio B, mixer/engineer Chris Shaw was mixing live shows for Ween and Bob Dylan. Shaw also worked on the solo record by Trey Anastasio from Phish, doing both overdubs and mixing. Brian Montgomery assisted. In Studio C, Telarc Records recently recorded the Sax Summit featuring Michael Brecker, Joe Lovano and Dave Liebman in DSD for 5.1 surround. Robert Friedrich engineered with help from Peter Doris. Richard Seidel oversaw the project. Producer Todd Barkan was recently in with engineer David Baker and organist Akiko Suruga with Doris assisting. Finally, in Studio D, Island Def Jam recording artist Fefe Dobson came into mix her debut album with producer Jay Levine. Aya Takemura assisted engineer Steve Reed.
