For the second year, the Shure Musical Roots benefit concert, held at Winter NAMM 2003, generated $50,000 for hearing-conservation charities as part of Shure's Bid for Hearing program. Mark Brunner, Shure's pro products portfolio director, presented the donation to House Ear Institute, H.E.A.R. and HAMF (Hearing Aid Music Foundation).

Featuring Cheap Trick and special guest Wayne Kramer from The MC5, the show played to a packed crowd at the House of Blues Anaheim; also announced at the show was the winner of the Shure Musical Roots contest, Zachary Mechlem from Florence, Ky. Showgoers received a pair of earplugs and were treated to a screening of Listen Smart, the 15-minute, Shure-sponsored educational film by the HAMF.
