Skywalker Sound (Marin County, Calif.) has added two more Pacific Microsonics Model Two audio converters; the studio now has three units that synchronize to make an ideal 5.1 surround (6-channel) system for music recording and scoring. Through an exclusive agreement with Microsoft, which acquired the design from Pacific Microsonics, the Model Two is now manufactured, sold and serviced by Euphonix.
"Almost all 2-channel projects that we have done at Skywalker over the past four years have been put through the Model Two," said Leslie Ann Jones, director of music recording and scoring at Skywalker Sound. "I've always preferred the sound and audio quality of the Model Two and made a point of using it as often as possible. It captures both the most natural and pristine digital sound I've ever heard."
The Model Two HDCD Processor is a stand-alone hardware unit, ideal for ultrahigh-quality DVD, DVD-Audio and CD mastering, as well as tracking and mixing. The Model Two features two channels of HDCD A/D conversion, D/A conversion and digital processing at a wide variety of sampling rates and word lengths up to 24-bit, 192 kHz. The Model Two is designed for surround sound, with a Master mode that allows three Model Two units to run from a single precision clock for the ultimate 6-channel, 5.1 surround system.
Skywalker Sound Scoring also employs the Euphonix R-1 digital 48-track recorder, and the facility owns a Euphonix System 5 digital console that is used for film dubbing, music recording and mixing.
