Snap5, the broadcast design division of MediaComm, has expanded to include original sound effects design and music composition. With the addition of sound designer Andrew Kay to its staff, the Charlotte, N.C.-based broadcast design shop further customizes projects for its clientele.

“Without sound, designs are flat;” said creative director Mike Dolan. “We brought Andrew into the mix so that he can be an integral part of the conceptual and design stages of our projects.” Kay agreed that his participation in pre-production will “better streamline the total concept-to-completion formula.” Communicating the “reality of a piece often requires specifically planned audio;” advised Kay. “Sometimes, music must be composed to make a spot completely tight and original.”

Snap5 welcomed its new hire with an impressive Pro Tools Suite that includes Proteus sound modules and a large bundle of plug-ins. Kay's previous work includes television, theater, movies and home entertainment, and compositions/sound design for Disney Studios, the History Channel, Sony PlayStation and the SPEED Channel.
