Turbosound will intro a new sound reinforcement system at NSCA 2004 in Demo Room S227. The new Turbosound system is scalable to suit specific acoustical and venue requirements, ranging from small venues to large stadiums, while offering improved power density, throw, pattern and phase behavior, with the additional advantage of variable horizontal coverage. At NSCA, Turbosound will be demonstrating the Contractor version of the series. The Live Sound Series is scheduled for an AES Europe introduction.

The new four-way modular system employs unique multicellular horns, or "polyhorns," to create a phase-coherent curved wavefront. The system permits individual wavefronts to coincide seamlessly with the physical curvature of an array to eliminate comb-filtering effects. Due to the design's focused directivity, the system is adaptable to a large range of room sizes and audience coverage requirements.

The new system comprises a set of proprietary transducers that operate over four individual frequency bands and are divided between two identically sized modular enclosures. High-stability neodymium magnet structures are used throughout.

The new Turbosound system replaces the company's Floodlight system in the current line.

"Turbosound's goal in developing this new system was to go ‘the next step’ beyond," said Jeff Alexander, director of distributed brands. "While the profligate number of line array offerings and barrage of associated marketing hyperbole has created a colloquial mindset that the 'line array' is the answer to all sound reinforcement needs, we have seen and heard from many astute engineers and designers that many applications call for something different. Coverage should be determined by audience/venue, not by the loudspeaker. Line arrays do have certain benefits in certain applications when used properly. However, they are not the answers for all sound reinforcement needs."

Also being launched at NSCA is a new range of digitally powered QLight™ loudspeaker products. Utilizing 96kHz DSP technology, these loudspeakers boast 112 dB of dynamic range and operate at more than 80-percent overall efficiency. The power amplifier also runs extremely cool, resulting in significant weight reduction. Auto-sensing power supplies make them extremely easy to use.
