Prior to the summer touring season of 2006, Sid Gattis, president of Lexington, S.C.-based Gattis Pro Audio—a full-service audio, visual, lighting and staging company—purchased four WorxAudio TL.218SS Sub Bass System enclosures. The system comprises a dual 18-inch setup in a compact form factor that he uses in conjunction with the company’s TrueLine V10-PMD3 powered line array system. Gattis describes the combination as “a match made in Heaven.”

Purchased primarily for use in outdoor concerts, Gattis reflected on his first exposure to the subwoofer. “We set up a demonstration for a major church project we recently completed, and Hugh Sarvis [WorxAudio’s CEO and director of engineering] brought in a single sub for evaluation. Right there and then, I fell in love with it. I was amazed at the sheer depth and power of this subwoofer. The TL.218SS literally kept going lower and lower where other subs would simply fall apart. For a moderately sized, double 18-inch enclosure, this sub’s 30- to 40Hz delivery is spectacular.

“The WorxAudio team is great to deal with,” Gattis continues. “I can get Hugh on the phone any time I need him, which hasn’t been often since the gear is made so well. The company has always been very responsive and I look forward to doing more business with them in the future.”

Gattis typically runs his WorxAudio subs two per side with his line array. “Normally, you’d expect to use a box twice this size,” he says. “It’s really amazing what we get out of these WorxAudio subs. I recently put four of them in front of 5,000 people and was initially told, ‘There’s not enough bottom end.’ I said, 'Wait ‘till we turn them on,' at which point, everyone exclaimed, ‘Oh, my God!’ You can’t ask for a better reaction than that.”

Gattis plans to acquire four additional TL.218SS enclosures by the start of this year’s touring season.
