Citycabin is a live/work space for a recording engineer/producer or band looking for a comfortable and accommodating space for recording and rehearsing.

For the last 30-plus years, Citycabin has contributed to the history of music in Minneapolis area as a recording center and record label. In the early 1970s, Citycabin was the birthplace of Twin/Tone records, Minnesota's own prestigious independent record label.

By 1977, the location’s identity evolved again, becoming recording studio Blackberry Way, where records for The Replacements, Husker Du, The Suburbs, Soul Asylum and many other Minnesota music legends were produced.

In 1994, this Dinkytown landmark was purchased by three-time Minnesota Music Awards Producer of the Year Alex Oana, and became known as Citycabin. Under the Citycabin name, recordings by Spymob, Storyhill, Kid Dakota, Alva Star, Romantica, Cathode Rae, Bubblemath, Bobby Llama, Olympic Hopefuls, Brenda Weiler and Friends Like These were made.

Citycabin is situated one block from the heart of Dinkytown, a thriving business community that offers over 24 different restaurants and cafés, including nine ethnic eateries and the world famous Al's Breakfast. Dinkytown’s four square blocks offer three record stores, four bookstores, two bicycle shops, 11 health and beauty salons, an optician, a seamstress, and five live music venues, including the trend-setting Loring Pasta Bar and Kitty Kat Club. Go one block further and you’re on the U of Minnesota main campus, where you’ll find everything from world-class cultural events to low-cost medical services.

Citycabin is a modified 1918 Craftsman with recording studio, three bedrooms, one bath, a dining area, lounge, private deck, finished basement and new laundry room. The space boasts hardwood floors, a gas stove, landscaping and four off-street parking spaces.

Tours can be arranged anytime. For more information, call 612/414-7755 and ask to speak with Alex Oana, or email citycabin@alexoana.com. To learn more about Alex and the studio, go to http://www.alexoana.com.
