elysia in Nettetal, Germany, announces the museq (the musical equalizer; $TBA) as its third major product. The analog EQ unit combines premium sound shaping capabilities with optimally matched parameters. The provided bands with their ample control ranges as well as some elysia-specific special features are intended to make sure that the museq can be flexibly used in any recording and mixing situation. The stepped controllers are especially dedicated to mastering applications.
Each of the two channels offers three parametric bands with a switchable Q. The additional outer bands are low/high-shelf designs that can be separately switched into a low/high cut mode with an extra resonance peak. Each gain controller of the 2x5 bands can be altered from boost to cut mode for a fine resolution of the control ranges and twice the number of available settings. Both channels have a switchable option for a stronger coloration of the signal.
The circuit design of the museq is completely based on discrete analog technology. All signal processing is realized with single transistors in permanent Class-A mode. The power supply is comprised of fully discrete circuits. museq also has an oversized transformer, selected encapsulated conductive plastic potentiometers and special current feedback amplifiers. The combination of these elements aims at maximum signal quality as well as clean and powerful sound characteristics, even when extreme settings are used.
After the presentation of the prototype at the October 2008 AES show in San Francisco, the serial version of the museq will be shown at the Musikmesse in Frankfurt, Germany, in Hall 5.1, Booth C81.
